IU experts available to comment on Biden administration's energy and environment team

INDIANAPOLIS and BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- President-elect Joe Biden has begun assembling an energy and environment team, and he is expected to make announcements in the coming days about who will lead it. News outlets are reporting that Gina McCarthy, a former administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, and Jennifer M. Granholm, a former governor of Michigan, are among Biden's top picks for key positions in his administration. O'Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs professor Sanya Carley's research focuses on policy and other efforts aimed at advancing the innovation of low-carbon and efficient energy technologies in both the electricity and transportation sectors. Her recent projects focus on the U.S. energy transition, including a study of vulnerable populations to the transition and a study of public acceptance of energy infrastructure.

Expert Bio
Professor Gabriel Filippelli is a biogeochemist, focusing on the flow and cycling of elements and chemicals in the environment. This includes his work on pollutant distribution and exposure to human populations, and ways to engage communities to reduce their own exposures. He is also an affiliate of the Environmental Resilience Institute, funded through IU's Prepared for Environmental Change Grand Challenge initiative.

Janet McCabe is director of the Environmental Resilience Institute at Indiana University and a professor of practice at the IU McKinney School of Law. From July 2013 to January 2017, she was the acting assistant administrator for the Office of Air and Radiation at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and from 2009 to 2013 she was principal deputy in that office.
