IU experts available to comment on flu prevention, safety in light of recent death in Marion County

October 22, 2019

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indiana State Department of Health confirmed on Oct. 22 that a Marion County resident is the state’s first flu-related death of the 2019-20 season. According to the state, more than 110 Hoosiers died from influenza-associated illnesses during the 2018-19 flu season. Those most at risk of complications from the flu include pregnant women; young children, especially those too young to get vaccinated; people with chronic illnesses; people who are immunocompromised; and the elderly. IU experts are available to comment on the importance of getting a flu vaccine, how to effectively communicate health information to the public and other flu-related safety topics. For more information, contact Andrea Zeek at 317-985-6004 or anzeek@iu.edu.
