Indiana University Bloomington (IUB) is excited to announce the launch of the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) this spring. Conducted every three years, NSSE aims to gather valuable feedback from first-year and senior students about their experiences, contributing crucial insights to enhance the overall student experience.
The survey invites students to share their involvement in educationally meaningful activities, the quality of interactions with faculty and staff, and their perceptions of the campus environment. This year’s survey also includes modules focusing on academic advising and high-impact practices, providing a comprehensive understanding of students’ academic journeys and support systems.
IUB is dedicated to achieving a robust response rate from students to ensure the data collected accurately reflects the diverse perspectives and experiences within the university community. The insights gathered will play a vital role in informing and supporting the work of academic units, student services, and various strategic plan initiatives, ultimately enhancing the overall educational experience for all students.
“The NSSE allows IUB to gather formation from students with the most experience (Seniors) and those who will take advantage of improvements made because of the information learned from the survey (First-Years),” said Vasti Torres, Interim Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education at IUB. “It is very important that all faculty and staff encourage students who can participate to complete the survey. We truly seek to hear as many opinions as possible.”
Students have a unique opportunity to make a tangible impact and be rewarded for their contributions by participating in the NSSE survey. Their active involvement allows them to make a real difference in shaping the future of the Bloomington campus community. Additionally, by sharing their perspectives and insights, they are not only ensuring that their voice is heard but also having the opportunity to pave the way for positive changes that benefit all students.
Moreover, participating in the NSSE survey offers respondents the chance to win one of 400 $25 Visa gift cards as a token of appreciation for their valuable feedback.
“We rely heavily on student input from the NSSE when making decisions on the types of programming we need to create or expand, and we share the data widely with our campus partners. I’m excited to hear what students have to say,” said Angie Gast, Director of Engaged Learning at IUB.
