Two IU Bloomington academic advisors, Emily Stratton and Niki Blackwell, were honored with National Conference on Academic Advising (NACADA) Region 5 awards for Excellence in Advising.
Stratton is an advisor with the University Division while Blackwell works in the School of Public Health.
NACADA is an international association that promotes and supports high-quality academic advising in higher education institutions with the goal of boosting student success.
Academic advisors from around the country learn about innovations in advising and exchange best practices at NACADA’s regional conferences, which are held in smaller settings than the organization’s annual conference. NACADA Region 5 includes Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Nunavut, Ohio, Ontario, and Wisconsin. Advisors from IU Bloomington regularly share presentations or serve in leadership roles for our region’s annual conference.
“Niki Blackwell and Emily Stratton are both excellent advisors,” said Laura Ivins, Director of Advising Training and Technology Systems with the University Division. “Winning NACADA awards serves as a well-deserved recognition of their professional expertise and commitment to students. In order to win an award, the nominees articulated a cohesive advising philosophy and demonstrated excellence in four overall categories – interpersonal skills, professional practices, documented professional success, documented professional development.”
