Indiana University Bloomington is proud to announce the recognition of three exceptional student employees who have been honored with the 2023-2024 Student Employee of the Year Awards for their outstanding contributions and dedication.

The Student Employment Committee for the Career Development Center at IU revived the Outstanding Innovation and Technology Award to honor student employees who go above and beyond in their roles.

In addition to the celebration, IU plans to showcase these students’ achievements on the Student Employment Website and the Undergraduate Education Department’s website. This recognition not only honors their service but also aims to inspire other students to make a positive impact through their student employment roles.

What is your favorite part of your job?

My role is student-facing, and I feel most fulfilled when I am able to help another student achieve their professional goals. I really enjoy working one-on-one with students and coaching them through internship/job application processes. My peers often don’t realize how incredible and accomplished they are. A large part of my job is to get them to understand that. It is so rewarding to see my fellow students become confident in their professional abilities and score those awesome internships and jobs!

What is the most important thing you’ve learned in your job?

I have learned that I can accomplish anything I put my mind to! Working with technology was never my strong suit prior to this job. I had so much to learn! I worked hard and was patient with myself, and now, I have become very confident in my ability to work with technology. Additionally, I learned the importance of excellent leadership. My supervisor, Becky Boyle, was so supportive as I learned the ins and outs of this job. Her leadership has made it easy to learn and grow from my work!

Major: Community Health with a minor in Human Development & Family Studies

Graduation: May 2025

What is your favorite part of your job?

My favorite part of the job is being able to have the opportunity to connect with students of various backgrounds and having the ability to educate my peers on harm reduction and what resources our office provides for students.

What is the most important thing you’ve learned in your job?

During my time here, I’ve learned how important it is to tailor education resources to different student groups. This involves understanding diverse backgrounds, making sure students can engage while learning, and adapting materials to ensure that every student can benefit from the educational experience.

Major: Secondary Education, Social Studies

Graduation: December 2025

Other campus involvement: Worked with various justice organizations on campus.

What is your favorite part of your job?

My favorite part of my job is the value of the service we provide to the community. IU Ride is an integral service for community safety on campus, and being able to devote my time to something so important is enriching in so many ways. It isn’t just valuable to me, but to the entire Bloomington community.

What is the most important thing you’ve learned in your job?

The most important thing IU Ride has taught me is balance. How to meet my commitments and build an effective service while maintaining my life and education outside it has proven difficult, but the experience I’ve gotten has made it easier as I’ve grown in the role. It is still a work in progress, and always will be, but the lessons I have learned here are priceless.
