The Class of 2023 will receive 710 diplomas during Indiana University East’s Commencement Ceremony on Friday, May 12. The Commencement Ceremony is at 10 a.m. and will be held outdoors on campus in front of Whitewater Hall.




Indiana University East’s 52nd Commencement Ceremony is May 12 on campus. Graduates hail from 58 Indiana counties, 33 states and 15 countries.




Of the degrees being conferred, 642 are bachelor’s degrees and 68 are master’s degrees.The figures include degree recipients from December 2022 and candidates for May, June and August 2023.



Graduates and their families are invited to share their cap and gown photos and unique celebrations with IU East on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using the hashtags #iueast and #iueastgrad2023.



The Commencement Ceremony will be broadcast via live stream video at commencement.iu.edu (note: this website will be available starting at the time of the ceremony). Richmond residents can also watch the ceremony live on WCTV Channel 20.



The Class of 2023 has several characteristics.



Of the total number of graduates, there are 58 Indiana counties represented, 33 states and 15 countries.



A brief glance at the statistics and figures provides a look at the graduates joining over 13,000 IU East alumni.




The Class of 2023 includes 710 graduates eligible to receive IU degrees. The figures include bachelor’s and master’s degree recipients from December 2022 and candidates for May, June and August 2023.




  • Indiana Resident: 482
  • Non-Resident: 209
  • Reciprocity residents: 75
  • Male: 194
  • Female: 497
  • Underrepresented Persons of Color: 14.3 percent
  • The oldest student graduating is 76, the youngest is 18.
  • The most numerous degrees to be granted is the B.S. in Psychology (130).
  • The second most frequent degree to be granted is the B.S. in Business Administration (82).
  • First generation students: 35.8 percent.



If sorting graduates by age, those who are 23 and younger compose 32.7% of the Class of 2023. Graduates ages 23-24 represent 16.2% of the class while those 25 and over compose 51.1%.



Within the Class of 2023, 25 undergraduate and 19 graduate students earned a 4.0 GPA.



IU East continues to boast an array of diverse graduates. Non-traditionally aged students make up the majority of graduates this year, and minority graduates have increased — up from 13.8% in 2022 and 12.6 % in 2021.
