BLOOMINGTON, Ind.— Indiana University will host GIS Day—an annual event that highlights geographic information system (GIS) technology and applications. The celebration will take place at the Herman B Wells Library lobby at IU Bloomington on Wednesday, November 13, from noon–4pm ET.
GIS tools help people solve problems, work more efficiently, and make better decisions. Their applications monitor the spread of disease, manage environmental emergencies, aid reforestation studies, and create local, state, national, and international mapping.
Now in its 21st year, GIS Day is a worldwide celebration of GIS technology. Attendees will also meet GIS professionals to learn about internships, training, certification, and careers.
GIS Day schedule:
Noon-1pm
- Keynote presentation by Maira Alvarez and Sylvia Fernandez, Borderlands Archives Cartography
- Lunch is provided, but pre-registration is required
1-4pm
- Information booths and GIS career advice
- Play with the Indiana Geological Survey’s augmented reality sandbox
- Try the award-winning IndianaMap using a touch display
- See Bloomington and Monroe County GIS data and imagery
- Network with GIS professionals and learn about internships and GIS careers
