GlobalNOC signs first customer to its new Light services program

DeSales University to benefit from suite of affordable, lightweight network operations center (NOC) offerings

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.— The Global Network Operations Center, or GlobalNOC, has its first official customer for a new service rolled out in late 2022.

DeSales University, a private, faith-based institution with an enrollment of about 3,100 students in Pennsylvania, signed on for GlobalNOC Light in January. Offering affordable, lightweight NOC services including basic network monitoring, traffic volume data, and network performance, the program is designed for smaller institutions whose needs are not as unique or time intensive as large, complex campus or wide area networks.

“We’ve always known that there was a market for a less-intensive and more budget-friendly version of our services, and we’re excited that DeSales University chose to partner with us on GlobalNOC Light,” said Marianne Chitwood, executive director, GlobalNOC client services. “Our expertise in higher education networks, coupled with our customer service skills, will surely benefit teaching and learning at DeSales.”

GlobalNOC Light has been designed for easy adoption and maintenance by campus IT staff. The service is built using GlobalNOC’s best-of-breed operations automation platforms. Using a simple configuration console, campus IT staff can set a high-level monitoring policy for their network, while GlobalNOC Light automatically and constantly updates monitoring based on this policy when we detect changes in the network via automated polling.  

When critical incidents threaten the network, GlobalNOC Light customers can rest assured knowing that the service features active engagement by GlobalNOC’s 24x7x365 Service Desk. For these incidents, the Service Desk staff will be responsible for reacting to an alert on the network and directly engaging campus staff to hand off the issue.
