Learn how to keep intruders out.

More time on Zoom leads to more opportunities for malicious behavior, known as Zoombombing. Learn how to protect your Zoom meeting by following a few simple steps.

• Don’t share your Zoom link or passcode publicly: Avoid putting it out on social media or in emails going to a large number of people.
• Do require participants to register: Sharing the registration link is safer when you’re trying to reach a wide audience.
• Do require a passcode to join the meeting: Zoom at IU will enable a waiting room as a default—the passcode adds security and can be used by those attending by phone.
• Do require participants to be logged in to an IU Zoom account: This step increases accountability on your meeting participants.
• Do enlist people you trust to act as co-hosts of the meeting: Make sure your co-hosts know how to use Zoom security controls in advance, in case of problems.

If you do experience a disruption in your Zoom meeting, be sure to report it so Information Security can investigate.

It’s easy to connect to IU’s secure, worldwide wireless network.

If you haven’t made the switch from IU Secure to eduroam yet, it’s time to do it. Even though IU Secure’s retirement date has been moved back from March 31, it will be retired later this year.

To access eduroam, go to the installer to quickly setup your device. Once authenticated, you’ll have access to IU’s secure, worldwide wireless network developed for research and education communities and available at a number of institutions within Indiana and beyond.

Meanwhile, free, secure, high-speed wireless access is available for all Hoosiers in 24-hour “lot hot spots” around the state. People with IU affiliations access Wi-Fi through eduroam, while others can use the IU Guest network.

Just two months until Box retires.

Box is now read-only and will retire on May 10. Review your migration error report for group and personal accounts and download anything you need from Box before May 10.

To ensure your institutional account is secure and to give colleagues access to the information even if you leave IU, please use the institutional storage request form. If you still need a Box account for collaboration with other institutions that use Box, you can convert your IU Box account to a personal “lite” account.

Meanwhile, IT training offers live and recorded webinars to better acquaint you with IU’s individual and institutional data storage platforms, Google at IU My Drive or Microsoft OneDrive at IU.

We know the timing of the Box retirement has not been ideal, but we thank you for your patience as we complete the cost-saving move.

The move enables better integration with Microsoft Teams.

More than 56 percent of faculty and staff have been migrated to Exchange Online, and all are scheduled to be completed by April 13. If you haven’t made the switch yet, you’ll be notified by email seven days ahead of time, and again one day before your migration. Be advised to print or save your migration emails in an offline location.

Exchange Online improves IU’s email security, including spam containment. Check your junk email folder. If you see an email that is not junk, mark it as Safe Sender. Exchange Online also integrates better with Microsoft Teams and other Office 365 apps.

New edition features evidence-based approach.

A new Teaching for Student Success course has been redesigned and updated to better support excellence in teaching and learning at IU. Launched Feb. 22, course modules are now organized into two pathways, Foundational and Active Learning. Participants can earn a certificate for each pathway.

The course is available to anyone who teaches at IU. So whether you’re a veteran instructor or brand-new, teach face-to-face or online, Teaching for Student Success will help you articulate your own teaching philosophy and better serve your students.
