Box cloud storage will be retired in the spring of 2021.
A big change is coming to cloud storage at IU, and we want to give you plenty of time to prepare.
Box is dramatically raising its prices and is ending its unlimited storage offering. Because of these changes, IU (along with many other higher education institutions) will no longer offer Box storage as of March 2021. At that time, Box will be moved to a read-only state. Access for users will be terminated in May 2021.
Meanwhile, here are a few guidelines:
- Don’t start moving now. UITS will provide tools to migrate Box data.
- Do start cleaning now. Delete unnecessary files and remove yourself from files or folders that you don’t want or need.
- IU will provide cloud storage options through Microsoft OneDrive or Google Drive.
This change is more than a year off, but we’ll keep you in the loop every step of the way as the IU community packs up its Box and moves.
Face-to-face classroom teaching temporarily suspended
IU’s Keep Teaching resources enable online classes
In light of the rapidly developing coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, IU has suspended classroom teaching temporarily. Following the scheduled spring break (March 15-22), students on all IU campuses will be taught remotely (not in person) for two weeks (March 23 to April 5). The university is planning to resume face-to-face teaching on April 6. However, that could change with the evolving situation. Check university announcements for the latest updates.
Faculty are taking advantage of resources at the Keep Teaching website, and the Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning has announced Keep Teaching seminars March 12-13 to help faculty with online teaching tools.
Staff are encouraged to telecommute, according to work obligations. Students are advised to stay alert to guidance from their professors. Everyone in the IU community can stay updated on the latest public safety updates at Protect IU. Meanwhile, university officials are closely following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and state and local health departments to mitigate risks to the IU community.
IU Information Security Office warns of coronavirus phishing attacks
Check sources before opening or passing on COVID-19 information.
Following an alert from the World Health Organization (WHO), the IU Information Security Office warns that cyber criminals are capitalizing on fear of COVID-19 with a variety of malicious cybersecurity attacks. Cyber thieves deliver most attacks via emails in which malicious actors disguise the “from address,” or email sender, to masquerade as a legitimate government agency. The attackers encourage email recipients to click a malicious link or attachment, such as a video.
The cyber criminals are attempting to steal information and deliver malware to unsuspecting users. Never share sensitive information like usernames and passwords within emails. Instead, go to the organization’s website, like one.iu.edu, and navigate to the system you are trying to access.

Even though it’s spring break next week, tech support continues 24/7.
The UITS Support Center is poised and ready to answer your technology questions 24/7 with phone, email, and chat support during spring break. Meanwhile, walk-in support continues at all campuses.
Know a 7th or 8th grader? Refer them to cybercamp
2020 Security Matters Cybercamp teaches students how to be savvy and safe online.
During a five-day summer camp led by cybersecurity professionals, students will interactively learn how computers get hacked, how data is stolen, and how to defend against attacks.
Date: June 8-12, 2020
Time: 9am-4pm

Sign up for the Teach, Play, Learn conference on South Bend campus
Submit your proposal for the game-based teaching and learning conference by March 16.
Registration is now open for Teach, Play, Learn, IU’s academic conference on game-based teaching and learning, taking place June 26 on the IU South Bend campus.
Sign up before May 26 for early bird pricing. If you’d like to be a presenter, there’s still time to submit your proposal. The date for submissions has been extended to March 16.
