Registration is now open for Teach, Play, Learn 2019, Indiana University’s academic conference on game-based teaching and learning, taking place July 12 on the IU South Bend campus.

Sign up before June 1 for early bird pricing, ranging from $38 for students to $90 for full-time faculty and staff. After June 1, pricing for full-time faculty and staff increases to $105.

Two-part event is open to both new and veteran IT Pros.

Whether you’re a freshly minted IT Pro or you’ve been around for a while, the new and improved IT Pro orientation is for you. During the event, you’ll learn more about essential tools and get the chance to network with your peers. 

So, what’s new? IT Pros can learn about all the service areas via a Canvas course that provides access and support at any time. And an onsite event gives IT Pros the opportunity to learn more and ask questions with other IT Pros and UITS service owners.

Calling all developers (front-end, back-end, and database) and software development project managers: registration is open for UITS’ second IU Hackathon event on April 12 at the Cyberinfrastructure Building (CIB). The event will include:

• Keynote address by Brad Wheeler, IU vice president for information technology and CIO, IU vice president for communications and marketing
• Quantiphi, a Google Cloud Premier Partner, on-site to facilitate artificial intelligence projects using Google DialogFlow
• Developer support for SharePoint Workflows via an on-site K2 software engineer

The event is open to the first 100 registrants.

Want to know more about teaching and learning tools? Stop by this interactive event, where you’ll spend a few minutes “speed dating” a specific tool or service before moving on to your next “date.”

Matchmakers from UITS Learning Technologies will be on hand to discuss the tools and answer your questions. If you’ve been looking for tech love in all the wrong places, you might be able to find the tool that completes you here.

March 21 talk is open to all via live stream.

The Center for Applied Cybersecurity Research (CACR) speaker series brings experts from around the nation to present their research and real-world experiences to IU faculty, staff, and students.

On March 21, the speaker will be Gary Stoneburner, system security engineer at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory. The presentation aims to advance critical thinking about cybersecurity and encourage discussion about proactively facilitating cost-effective cybersecurity actions that achieve clearly identified goals.

Weekly workshop offers hands-on introductions to UITS services.

Chauncey Frend, from the UITS Advanced Visualization Lab, is the presenter for the Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality session of the Services for Digital Humanities & Creative Activities workshop series.

He’ll share projects and workflows to help you begin using augmented reality, and discuss virtual reality opportunities in IU’s reality labs, courses, and summer camps, as well as how you can make use of these technologies.
