UITS news for May 4, 2022
Want a smooth switch to Exchange email?
Set up your account before May 17.
Microsoft Exchange Online will soon be the official university email for all IU students. To make this migration as smooth as possible, UITS recommends setting up your new Exchange Online account on your devices before May 17. Find out how at emailmigration.iu.edu. Bookmark this site for easy reference before or after the migration.
Congrats 2022 grads! What happens to your accounts now?
Manage your accounts before you leave IU.
Congratulations to the class of 2022! We hope you enjoy your May commencement ceremonies.
As you transition to post-grad life, here are some helpful hints about managing your student accounts.
- Your university accounts, such as email, will remain active for now, but they will be disabled after two consecutive terms in which you are not enrolled.
- If IU-distributed software is already installed on your computer, you can keep it. Note: Once you are no longer enrolled, you will not be able to download university software. (Microsoft 365 will be disabled after two consecutive semesters of non-enrollment.)
- You will retain access to some services, such as bills, transcripts, and financial aid, but you will lose access to some IU resources, such as IU wireless, VPN, and STC computers.

Share your opinions about tech at IU
Join a student tech advisory committee to help shape tech decisions.
Do you love tech or do you avoid it as much as possible? We know you have opinions—that’s why we’re forming student technology advisory committees (STACs). We want that candid feedback about technology services at IU.
When you join an STAC, UITS teams will use your input to help make decisions about technology and tools that shape the student experience. The time commitment is low, and as a bonus, it looks great on your resumé.
IU to offer statistical analysis software downloads at no charge
Install statistical, mathematical, and qualitative analysis applications beginning July 1.
A new UITS initiative will allow you to install statistical, mathematical, and qualitative analysis applications on your own computer—at no additional cost—beginning July 1, 2022. The apps available for installation at no charge are: SAS, SAS JMP, Stata, Mathematica, SPSS, Matlab, ArcGIS, or Nvivo.
You’ll be able to use the software on the platform that works best for you, with the same high level of support you’ve come to expect from UITS Research Technologies.
Software will continue to be available via the Student Technology Centers and IUanyWare and on IU’s research systems.
Google storage changes are coming
Data limits in place by the end of 2022.
The amount of data IU users can store in Google Drive will be changing at the end of this calendar year. Google at IU will remain available to you, and your account will continue to work as it does now, as long as your account remains under the limit of 5 GB.
You can see your total Google at IU usage by visiting your Google account. Make sure you’re logged into your Google at IU account, rather than your personal Google account.
No action is needed now. However, if you are using more than 5 GB, you will need to reduce your Google storage. Users with more than 4 GB of data should watch for an email outlining options for data storage, coming soon.
Two-step Login with Duo is getting a new look
Watch for security improvements to Duo during the summer.
Two-Step Login (Duo) provides an additional layer of security when you log in to IU systems. Unfortunately, cybercriminals have found ways to get around this protection.
That’s why UITS will soon be providing a more secure and even simpler Duo experience, called Duo Universal Prompt, to help you log in to your applications.
No immediate action on your part is required, but some users may have to change a few settings later this summer.
Help cultivate digital literacy across IU
Apply to be a Digital Gardener Faculty Fellow for fall 2022.
As part of the Digital Gardener Faculty Fellowship Program, you’ll work to incorporate digital literacy, creativity, and learning into your teaching. Faculty will build individual skills, develop curriculum materials, and work collaboratively with others across campuses and disciplines.
Fellows will receive a stipend for participation. Open to all full-time faculty, regardless of rank, discipline, or campus (part-time faculty who are also full-time IU employees may also apply). Deadline to apply is May 10.
