Traveling this summer? Stay cyber safe

Don’t let cyber thieves ruin a good time.

Now that COVID-19 restrictions are loosening up, you might be making plans to travel this summer. Take steps before, during, and after your trip to reduce cyberattack risk. A few precautions can protect your data and mobile devices.

  • Travel with small devices and carry them on you. They are less likely to be stolen from a hotel room or modified with a keystroke logger. Do not place mobile devices in checked baggage.
  • If your device is lost or stolen, report it immediately to IU.
  • Enroll a secondary Duo device in case you don’t have access to your primary device.
  • Set secure passwords, codes, or screen locks for all devices.
  • Make a secure connection. Log in using IU’s VPN.
  • For faculty and staff, your IT Pro can help you secure data for travel. If you must bring a work device, ask if your department has loaner devices available.
