Happy July 4 from UITS! Enjoy your holiday weekend, but if you need IT help, the Support Center will be there for you. Phone, email, and chat support will be up and running 24/7.
Be aware that UITS Support Center walk-in locations at IU Bloomington and IUPUI will be closed on Sunday, July 4, and Monday, July 5, in observance of Independence Day. Also, the Support Center Tier 2 and CrimsonCard offices will be closed on Monday, July 5.
Higher education collaborates to defend against cyberattacks
IU-based REN-ISAC leads workshops to tackle ransomware, blended threats.
Imagine a university that has been infiltrated by malicious ransomware. In addition to locking up institutional data, it can exploit vulnerable on-campus interconnected devices, including heating and cooling systems in residence halls and research buildings—a blended threat.
Through collaboration and cooperation, the Research and Education Networks Information Sharing and Analysis Center (REN-ISAC) housed at IU is helping universities in the U.S., Canada, and Australia to better prepare for this kind of attack.
IU takes lead to connect the Asia Pacific Oceania region
New network leverages IU’s TransPAC initiative to accelerate discovery.
International Networks at IU is leading a new research and education network initiative to connect East Asia, Southeast Asia, Oceania, and North America. The Asia Pacific Oceania Network brings together 11 global leading-edge research and education networks.
The high-speed network collaboration enables large-scale scientific workflows to accelerate discovery in all areas of science and engineering, including high-energy physics, earth sciences, astronomy and astrophysics, biology and biomedical engineering, as well as scalable visualization, virtual reality, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.
IUPUI Collaboration Theatre wins European honors for best classroom space
Inspired by classical amphitheater design, the room fosters collaboration and conversation.
For the second year in a row, IU has earned international recognition for its innovative use of technology in learning spaces. Earlier this month, European University Information Systems (EUNIS) named the Collaboration Theatre on the IUPUI campus the best AV-enabled classroom educational space in its 2021 EUNIS Awards.
In 2020, IUPUI’s Idea Garden won the EUNIS Award for best AV-enabled makerspace. Formed in 1993, EUNIS is a nonprofit organization for people who are responsible for the management, development, and policy of higher education IT in Europe.
AI at IU has a home
New center for AI, machine-learning research dedicated at IU Bloomington.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is changing technology and the world, and IU has long led the way in this critical area. IU President Michael A. McRobbie dedicated the $35 million Luddy Center for Artificial Intelligence, a 58,000-square-foot facility that will serve as the hub for multidisciplinary research in advanced AI and machine-learning applications, during a ceremony June 23 at Luddy Hall.
The initial focus of the Luddy Center for AI, which will open in August, will include robotics, complex networks, health, and social media.
