Hi! My name is….

Name pronunciations are now available in the IU Directory and the News at IU experts directory

What’s in a name? Plenty, especially when it’s not pronounced correctly. All staff, faculty, and students at IU have access to NameCoach, a tool for recording your name so others can learn how to pronounce it.

Names can be recorded on your mobile device, a computer microphone, or over the phone, then made available:

  • In Canvas
  • From your email signature
  • On social media (Linkedin, etc.)
  • In your News at IU expert profile page (by request)
  • Anywhere you choose to share your NameBadge

Now your name recording will also appear in the IU Directory after you’ve made the recording. You can even show some school spirit with a crimson NameBadge. So, what are you waiting for—go make a name for yourself!

New phishing recognition service to launch July 24

In the ongoing campaign against phishing, the IU Security Center offers external email flagging to help protect you and your personal information. The service will be activated for all IU accounts on July 24.

After this date, messages received from non-IU email addresses will have an [External] tag added to the beginning of the subject line. You will also see a warning at the top of the message with a reminder to use caution when clicking linking or opening attachments from external sources.

This service can be turned off at any time by toggling the setting in the IU Security Center.

For more information on how—and why—to avoid email scams, visit phishing.iu.edu.

Research program for women seeks applicants

The Center of Excellence for Women & Technology is accepting applications from first and second-year female students at IU Bloomington for the Emerging Scholars Research Experience for Undergraduate Women. No research experience is necessary, as the idea is for women to learn the skills they need along the way. Applicants will be matched with a faculty research project based on their interests, and they can earn five hours of research course credit for the entire program (fall and spring).
