Take IU with you
Improved IU Mobile app includes updates to search and calendar.
IU has released some updates to the IU Mobile app, including improvements to search and the ability for students to export their schedule to their mobile device’s calendar.
Among many features, the IU Mobile app allows you to navigate the campus and manage class assignments. IU continues to update the features. Soon, students can use the app to record work hours in Kuali Time.
UITS welcomes new associate vice president of Learning Technologies
Jay Gladden will join the UITS Office of the Vice President for IT in August.
UITS welcomes Jay Gladden as associate vice president for Learning Technologies in the Office of the Vice President for IT. Gladden brings a wealth of higher education leadership experience to the position from IU and from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He will transition into the role in August.
For the past four years, he served as associate vice chancellor for the Division of Undergraduate Education, dean of the University College, and acting dean of the Honors College at IUPUI. In these roles, he has worked closely with UITS in the planning, development, and enhancement of technology systems that support students.

The Emerging Scholars Research Experience pairs you with a faculty mentor.
The Center of Excellence for Women & Technology is now accepting applications for the 2021-2022 Emerging Scholars Research Experience for Undergraduate Women program. Open to first- or second-year women at IU Bloomington, no research experience is necessary, and all majors are welcome.
All projects actively use technology and/or computing. Together with other students in the cohort, students enroll in a spring class and participate in a research hackathon and a poster competition. The deadline to apply is Aug. 1.

A codemaker or a codebreaker?
Teens learn to be both in workshop hosted by IU cybersecurity experts and WonderLab.
IU cybersecurity experts teamed up with WonderLab for the second year in a row to conduct a virtual, five-day workshop for teens, “Codemakers and Codebreakers: Cyber Security Workshop.” Twenty high school and middle school students joined the cybercamp June 21-25 from five states, Indiana, Illinois, Virginia, Maryland, and Kentucky.
The teens learned from seasoned cybersecurity professionals who developed their own content for the camp and shared their real-world experience, setting the workshop apart from other cybersecurity camps. Nine senior IU UITS staff members presented along with an instructor from the National Center for Supercomputing Applications at the University of Illinois.
Faculty: Course Material Transformation Fellowship provides $2000
Fellows replace traditional textbooks with lower-cost course materials.
The Course Material Transformation Fellowship provides fellows with support from librarians, instructional technologists, and peers as they adopt and customize affordable course materials. The fellows replace traditional textbooks with open educational resources, library ebooks and databases, or instructor-created materials.
The pilot year of the fellowship program is estimated to impact more than 5,000 IU Bloomington and IUPUI students and save those students more than $185,000.
