BLOOMINGTON, Ind.— OmniSOC and Forewarned Inc. have created a new reseller partnership for the promotion and support of STINGAR v2. STINGAR is a security platform in use by more than fifty education and research institutions.

Forewarned Inc. was founded by the team from Duke University’s Office of Information Technology that originally created STINGAR (Shared Threat Intelligence, Network Gatekeeper, Automated Response).

Hugh Thomas, the CEO of Forewarned said, “STINGAR continuously detects network cyber intrusions and automatically blocks attackers in real time to dramatically reduce the amount of network intrusions and security alerts, better protecting the networks and saving money. We are very pleased to partner with OmniSOC to benefit critical resources in research and higher education.”

OmniSOC is the shared, collaborative higher education security operations center (SOC) led by Indiana University (IU).

“We’re pleased to have Forewarned on board as a partner and to expand the use of STINGAR honeypot systems and threat intelligence throughout research and higher education,” said OmniSOC Executive Director Susan Sons. “Honeypots are an essential tool in protecting against bad actors targeting hard-to-monitor assets such as Science DMZs and scientific instruments.”

About STINGAR v2

STINGAR v2 is a major redesign of the platform which has been in production for more than five years. The latest version of the STINGAR platform enables organizations of all sizes to benefit from the live threat intelligence feed created by STINGAR partners across the country thereby improving the overall security and resilience of all networks.

The STINGAR (Shared Threat Intelligence, Network Gatekeeper, Automated Response) platform was originally developed by Duke’s Information Technology Security Office as part of its overall IT security strategy to address malicious cyberattacks seen inside its network. STINGAR provides a low-cost way to improve the utilization of existing security infrastructure.

As a software solution, requiring only minimal computing resources, STINGAR offers a low-cost, highly effective platform to improve the overall security and resilience of enterprise networks. Any enterprise that already utilizes a firewall as part of their network infrastructure can benefit from installing STINGAR on their network.
