Expert Bio

Julia R. Fox is an associate professor in the communication science unit in The Media School. She joined IU in 2000. Her research and teaching interests include using motivated cognition theories to examine how people process and remember mediated messages and to guide examinations of message content, particularly television news and humor.

Her most recent studies have examined comedic news programs as sources of political information. She has publications in the Journal of Broadcasting & Electronic Media, Communication Research, Journalism and Mass Communication Quarterly and Human Communication Research. Her industry experience includes on-air and management broadcast news positions and stringer reporting for CNN, CBS and UPI.

She received a Ph.D. in communication from Cornell University in 1999.
