Phil Powell

Expert Bio

Phil Powell is a clinical associate professor of business economics and public policy and a Daniel C. Smith Faculty Fellow at the IU Kelley School of Business in Bloomington. He is also the academic director of the Indiana Business Research Center and an associate editor for Business Horizons, the Kelley School’s academic journal for managers and practitioners.

Powell is a member of the Executive Leadership Committee for IU Bloomington 2030 and serves on the Hispanic Business Council and Business Ownership Initiative board for the Indy Chamber.

He recently served as associate dean of academic programs at the Kelley School in Indianapolis. Before that, he served as faculty chair of the full-time and online MBA programs at Indiana University in Bloomington. Both programs saw an increase in national rankings under Powell’s leadership.

Powell joined the Kelley School as an Indianapolis faculty member in 1996. He received his Ph.D. in economics from Vanderbilt University and his undergraduate degree in economics from the University of South Carolina.
