Expert Bio

Barbara Pierce’s research focuses on the child welfare workforce and related issues, trauma education, teaching and learning, and rural social work. She teaches graduate courses in child welfare and trauma, community engaged participatory action research, and social theory. She is the primary investigator on multiple trauma- and child welfare-related grants.

Pierce holds a doctorate in social work from Case Western Reserve University, a master of social services and a master of law and social policy from Bryn Mawr College, and a bachelor's degree in sociology from St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia.
