Expert Bio

Andrew D. Gavrin is chair of the Department of Physics at IUPUI and director of IU's Mack Center for Inquiry on Teaching and Learning. His research in physics education is centered on the use of communications technologies in face-to-face courses. He is co-developer of the Just-in-Time Teaching (JiTT) method and co-author of "Just-in-Time Teaching: Blending Active Learning with Web Technology." He is a fellow of the American Association of Physics Teachers and a member of the IU Faculty Academy on Excellence in Teaching, or FACET. He is also a consultant on technology in education and on the development of science standards for Indiana K-12 schools.

Gavrin received his B.S. from MIT and his M.S. and Ph.D. in physics from Johns Hopkins University, where his research focused on the magnetic properties of nanostructured materials. He joined the faculty of IUPUI in 1995.
