Expert Bio

Eric R. Walsh-Buhi is professor and chair of the Department of Applied Health Science at the IU School of Public Health-Bloomington. His research focuses on understanding and promoting sexual health among young people, and examining the influence of and employing innovative technologies for health promotion and behavior change, called Digital Health.

In conjunction with the nonprofit ETR, Walsh-Buhi is leading a federally funded randomized controlled trial to test the effectiveness of a blended learning healthy relationships intervention. About Us is designed to reduce unintended pregnancy and STDs among vulnerable youth, delivered through school-based health centers in California. He is also leading a three-year $1 million grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to address social determinants of health and STDs among Latino youth in the South Bay region of San Diego County, California.

Walsh-Buhi is past president of the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality and Associate Editor for the American Journal of Public Health. From 2006 to 2014, he was on the faculty at the University of South Florida College of Public Health, and from 2014-2019, he was on the faculty at the San Diego State University School of Public Health.
