Expert Bio
Andres Tovar is an associate professor of mechanical and energy engineering at IUPUI. He has extensive research experience in multiphysics topology optimization, multiscale structural optimization and Bayesian optimization. Applications include design of lightweight vehicle structures and control co-design of autonomous vehicles. His research efforts have been funded by the National Science Foundation, the National Academies of Sciences, and the Air Force Office of Scientific Research as well as by the Walmart Foundation, Honda R&D Americas, and General Motors.
Tovar teaches courses in machine design, topology optimization, Bayesian optimization and generative design. He has been the recipient of the 2019 IU Trustees Teaching Award, the 2018 SHPE STAR Educator of the Year Award and the 2014 SAE Ralph R. Teetor Educational Award.
