Mathematical modeling in biology, especially in phylogenetics and statistical genetics.
Elizabeth Housworth obtained her Ph.D. from the University of Virginia under the guidance of Loren Pitt in probability and harmonic analysis. At the University of Oregon, she obtained an Interdisciplinary Grant in the Mathematical Sciences from the National Science Foundation which funded her a year's leave of absence from the Department of Mathematics to the Department of Biology in order to change research directions to mathematical biology. She works on statistical models for crossover interference in statistical genetics and on phylogenetic models, both for analyzing comparative data and for phylogenetic tree reconstruction from DNA data.View full bio
