Expert Bio
Bieneke A. Haitjema holds a graduate degree in linguistics from the University of Utrecht. Her research focused on the role of speech perception in phonology. Her career in education started in the Netherlands where she taught English language and literature. In the U.S. she has taught English as a second language in various educational settings. She joined the faculty of the Department of Germanic Studies at Indiana University in 2010 where she has been teaching Dutch language and culture classes. She is also a commercial and technical translator. Fields of interest are computer-assisted language learning and socio-linguistics.
