Expert Bio

Keith Barton conducts research on the teaching and learning of history and social studies in the United States and internationally. He has published widely on topics such as students’ thinking about history and human rights; the nature and purpose of history and social studies curricula; teacher preparation; and research methodology.

He is the co-author of “Teaching History for the Common Good” and “Doing History: Investigating with Children in Elementary and Middle Schools,” among other works. He has served as a visiting professor at the University of Ulster in Northern Ireland, Victoria University in New Zealand and the National Institute of Education in Singapore.
