Expert Bio
Associate professor Andrew Coggan is an internationally recognized exercise physiologist with extensive experience as the principal investigator or co-investigator in studies of exercise/metabolic physiology in a wide range of subject populations, e.g., healthy untrained individuals, athletes, the elderly, patients with heart failure, etc. These studies have also utilized a wide range of methodologies, e.g., muscle biopsy, stable and radioactive isotopic tracers, MRI/MRS, PET, etc. Most recently, his research has focused on regulation of skeletal muscle contractile function by nitric oxide and the potential of dietary nitrate for treatment of individuals in whom nitric oxide bioavailability is impaired.
