Since his graduate studies, Andrea Bonetto has focused his research on the identification of the molecular factors that are responsible for muscle wasting. Bonetto is currently studying the effects of chemotherapy on muscle homeostasis and function by taking advantage of both in-vitro and in-vivo experimental models. His future studies will interrogate the molecular mechanisms associated with the occurrence of chemotherapy-induced cachexia and will investigate whether strategies aimed at preserving the mitochondrial pool or the integrity of the neuromuscular junctions may contribute to reduce chemotherapy side effects, thus also enhancing their efficacy and tolerability.View full bio
