Expert Bio

Beth Buggenhagen is an associate professor in the Department of Anthropology at Indiana University Bloomington, where she has taught since 2006. She completed her Ph.D. in anthropology at the University of Chicago in 2003. Her research analyzes the politics of social production and value, material and visual culture, gender, Islam and migration. These interests have emerged from her fieldwork in Senegal and with Senegalese Muslim migrants in New York City and Chicago. Her fieldwork in Senegal from 1999 to 2000 resulted in the book ”Muslim Families in Global Senegal” (Indiana University Press 2011).
