Expert Bio

Randall Roper is an associate professor of genetics in the Department of Biology at IUPUI who is broadly trained in genetics and specializes in Trisomy 21 or Down syndrome. His laboratory is interested in understanding how specific genes found on human chromosome 21 influence cognitive, skeletal and craniofacial abnormalities observed in individuals with Down syndrome. Through the use of cellular, animal models and information from individuals with Down syndrome, he is seeking to understand the basic mechanisms causing Trisomy 21 related deficits and potential therapies to alleviate these deficits.

Roper has a Ph.D. in immunology and genetics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
