Expert Bio

Patrick Shih is an assistant professor of informatics in the School of Informatics, Computing and Engineering; his research utilizes mixed methods approaches to tackle research problems in online and geographic communities. Currently, he focuses on leveraging awareness of individual and community activities embedded in sensor technologies, smart devices, social media, and online forums in the design and construction of novel persuasive interfaces and civic engagement platforms that facilitate sustainable motivational and behavioral changes. Prior to joining IU Bloomington, he was a research associate and lecturer in the College of Information Sciences and Technology at Penn State from 2012 to 2015.
