Expert Bio

Paul Staten is an assistant professor in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. His research focuses on understanding how the Earth’s atmosphere works and how changes in the atmosphere affect weather patterns, including the frequency of extreme weather events such as tornadoes. He uses both climate models and satellite data in his work.

After graduating from Weber State University in Utah, with a math degree and a physics minor, Staten pursued a Ph.D. in atmospheric sciences at the University of Utah. Before moving to Bloomington, he was a postdoctoral scholar with the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory/Caltech.
