Expert Bio

Carrie Lawrence is an assistant researcher and associate director of the Rural Center for AIDS/STD Prevention who has over 20 years of experience working in child welfare, juvenile justice and health education. Her research agenda includes community, policy and systems transformation to collectively address factors or determinants (physical, social, political environments and challenges across individuals’ ‘life contexts’), reduce disparities and improve health outcomes. As Project Cultivate director (an independent collaborative that initiates/supports communities to address opiate-related harms) she and local, state and national partners provide technical assistance and guidance that build functional capacity, solve local problems, leverage resources and implement harm reduction strategies.
