Expert Bio
Betsi Grabe is a professor and the associate dean of The Media School. Her scholarly work focuses the influence of media images on human comprehension of their social world. Her book, "Image Bite Politics: News and the Visual Framing of Elections" (with Erik Bucy; Oxford University Press, 2009), received two book awards in 2010.
She was born and raised in South Africa, where she worked as a television news documentary producer during the State of Emergency in the mid-1980s. She is affiliated with the Department of Political Sciences at the University of Pretoria, South Africa, as a research associate.
