Expert Bio

John Goodpaster is an associate professor in the Department of Chemistry and the director of the Forensic and Investigative Sciences Program at IUPUI. He teaches about alcohol, drugs and trace evidence. He conducts research on ignitable liquids, controlled substances and explosives.

He received his B.A. in chemistry from Gustavus Adolphus College, then an M.S. in criminal justice and a Ph.D. in analytical chemistry from Michigan State University. He was a research chemist at the National Institute of Standards and Technology and then a forensic chemist with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
