Areas of Expertise
Cancer cell biology, cell division, genome instability, aneuploidy.
Claire Walczak is assistant director of research for the Medical Sciences Program at the IU School of Medicine-Bloomington. The Walczak Lab is interested in the fundamental mechanisms that cells use to accurately distribute their genetic material to the two daughter cells. Defects in this process lead to aneuploidy and genomic instability, which are hallmarks of cancer. Using a combination of biochemistry, biophysics, cell biology, genomics and high-resolution imaging techniques, they ask fundamental questions about how cells maintain mitotic fidelity and how cell maintain proper ploidy. These studies will allow for the development of new targets for treatment of aberrant cell division in cancer.View full bio
