Expert Bio

Kristoffer Rees is an assistant professor of political science whose research interests address state-building, nationalism and identity-making in authoritarian states, especially those of the former Soviet Union, with a focus on the politics of memory and identity.

Rees' fieldwork in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan has been supported, in part, by generous Title VIII grants administered by Indiana University and American Councils. His research has been published in a range of leading journals, including Nationalities Papers and Nationalism and Ethnic Politics.

Rees earned his Ph.D. in political science and Central Eurasian studies from Indiana University.
