Expert Bio

Dennis Bingham is a professor of English and director of film studies at IUPUI. He has published widely on film biography and on stardom, gender and acting in Hollywood and international cinemas.

His publications include "Whose Lives Are They Anyway?: The Biopic As Contemporary Film Genre" and "Acting Male: Masculinities in the Films of James Stewart, Clint Eastwood, and Jack Nicholson." He has also published articles in Cinema Journal, Journal of Film and Video, and a/b: Auto/Biography Studies.

In anthologies, Bingham has published chapters on reception theory and "The Shining," on the acting of Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman in "Eyes Wide Shut," on John Frankenheimer’s "The Gypsy Moths," on Woody Guthrie and the 1970s Hollywood biopic, and on Daniel Day-Lewis and contemporary stardom.

He is at work on a book about Bob Fosse.
