Requests for construction of a new academic building on the IUPUI campus as well as renovations of Teter Quadrangle and an addition to the Delta Upsilon fraternity house on the IU Bloomington campus were approved by the Indiana University Board of Trustees at today’s Facilities and Auxiliaries Committee meeting on the IU Southeast campus. Vice President for Capital Planning and Facilities Thomas A. Morrison presented the requests.

Project approval was given for the new Multidisciplinary Research and Classroom Building at IUPUI. This approximately 100,000-gross-square-foot facility will house programs in the School of Science and the School of Engineering and Technology. Preliminarily sited at the southeast corner of Blackford and Michigan streets, the new building will include state-of-the-art interdisciplinary research and lab spaces, as well as modernized classrooms, collaborative learning spaces and support areas. Architectural designs will be presented for approval at a later meeting.

“This new Multidisciplinary Research and Classroom Building reflects the collaborative and cross-disciplinary spirit of the research and educational enterprise on the IUPUI campus,” IUPUI Chancellor Nasser H. Paydar said. “With much-needed state-of-the-art laboratories and classroom spaces focused especially on STEM fields, we will be able to continue to conduct innovative research and provide students the education they need to meet the demands of the future.”

On the Bloomington campus, all five residence hall buildings in Teter Quadrangle will be renovated in two phases, enabling about half of the facility to be in use during each phase. Mechanical systems will be replaced, a new fire suppression system installed, and elevator and accessibility upgrades performed. Updates will also be made to corridor and student room finishes.

A design for a 650-square-foot addition to the Delta Upsilon fraternity house also was approved. The addition will provide accommodations for a house director/professional resident advisor and a new bike facility.
