B-Start program to host Demo Day, award prizes to entrepreneurs on March 6

Fifteen entrepreneurs on nine teams to compete for $4,500 in prizes during concluding event of 22-week program

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Nine teams of entrepreneurs will deliver five-minute business pitches to a panel of judges at Demo Day, the final event of the 22-week B-Start pre-accelerator program in Bloomington for early-stage startups.

Most finalists are Bloomington residents, including 10 Indiana University students. Each team will receive $500 for participating. The three top-scoring teams will divide $4,500 in prizes.

“Creating new businesses and plugging them into the startup ecosystem in Bloomington is the goal of the B-Start program, and this new cohort looks like one of our strongest yet,” said Anne McCombe, project manager at the Bloomington Economic Development Corp.

Innovate Indiana, a dedicated effort to channel Indiana University’s leading resources to advance economic development and technology commercialization in the state and beyond, is a founding sponsor of B-Start.

WHAT: Demo Day business pitches, the conclusion of the 22-week-long B-Start pre-accelerator program for early-stage startups

WHEN: 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 6

WHERE: Wrubel Conference Room, IU Cyberinfrastructure Building, 2709 E. 10th St., Bloomington

WHO: Fifteen entrepreneurs who have created nine startups. Judges are Pete Yonkman, Cook Group; Jim Silberstein, Ivy Tech; and Jason Whitney, IU Research and Technology Corp.
