INDIANAPOLIS – This Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium, IUPUI will confer degrees to nearly 7,000 graduates.

Among this year’s graduating class is current Cleveland Cavaliers guard George Hill, who finished his degree from IUPUI’s School of Liberal Arts this spring, nearly 15 years after he began his college studies.

Hill began his college career at IUPUI in 2004 after graduating from Broad Ripple High School in Indianapolis. He played basketball for the Jaguars for three-plus seasons, where he was the 2008 Summit League Player of the Year and an AP honorable mention All-American.

He closed his IUPUI career ranked among the program’s top 10 in rebounds, assists, free throws and steals before entering the 2008 NBA draft.

Over the last 10 years, Hill has been a key player for such teams as the San Antonio Spurs, the Indiana Pacers, the Utah Jazz and now the Cleveland Cavaliers.

As the Cavaliers move forward to the NBA Eastern Conference Finals, Hill also moves forward by achieving his dream of being the first in his family to attend college and complete a degree.

Hill will join Jon Madrigal – an organizational leadership and supervision major from Griffith, Indiana – as this year’s student commencement speakers.

This year’s keynote commencement speaker is A’Lelia Bundles, the great-great-granddaughter of Madam C.J. Walker, one of the nation’s first African-American female self-made millionaires. IUPUI Chancellor Nasser H. Paydar will present Bundles with the Chancellor’s Medallion, which is being awarded to Walker posthumously.
