Looking for a quiet place on campus to escape the hustle and bustle of city life?
Head west on New York Street until you arrive at Ball Hall. Hidden behind the residence hall is a quiet oasis, filled with walking paths, green space and a beautiful fountain.
The sunken garden, known as Ball Gardens, is the celebrated historic site of hijinks and shenanigans amongst nursing students studying at the IU School of Nursing in the 1940s and ’50s.
The garden opened in 1934 and was designed by the Olmsted Brothers firm, the same firm that designed Central Park in New York City.
Recently restored to its former glory, the garden is now a tranquil setting, perfect for lunch with friends or when you need a quiet place to prep for exams.
