IU employees: Learn what’s new, different for this year’s open enrollment period

Indiana University’s open enrollment period is from Nov. 5 to 16.

During the annual event, IU employees can make changes to their medical and dental insurance, add or remove eligible dependents, determine their use and savings needs for their Health Savings Account contribution, decide whether to save money through the Tax Saver Benefit plans, and review and change their personal accident insurance coverage.

This year, eligible employees also have a one-time opportunity to enroll in or increase their level of coverage in Long Term Disability Insurance without providing proof of good health. Employees also are encouraged to sign a Tobacco-Free Affidavit for themselves and their spouse each year to receive a reduction in premium costs.

Information booklets will begin arriving in campus mail starting today, and additional information is available from Human Resources.

Employees and family members are encouraged to attend any campus information session or webinar. A list of times and locations is available on the Human Resources open enrollment website and in the open enrollment booklets.

Coverage for employees who take no action during the open enrollment period will “roll over” into 2019, with the exception of the Tax Saver Benefit plan and the Tobacco-Free Affidavit premium reduction. Those benefits require an annual election to participate.

Here is what’s new for 2019:

Anthem PPO High Deductible Health Plan

The in-network deductible will increase to $1,500 for employee-only coverage and $3,000 for all other coverage levels. The in-network out-of-pocket maximum will increase to $3,000 for employee-only coverage and $6,000 for all other coverage levels.

The out-of-network deductible will increase to $3,000 for employee-only coverage and $6,000 for all other coverage levels. The out-of-network out-of-pocket maximum will increase to $6,000 for employee-only coverage and $12,000 for all other coverage levels.

Health Savings Account

The annual IRS contribution maximums will increase to $3,500 for employee-only coverage and $7,000 for all other coverage levels.

There are no changes to the university’s contribution to the Health Savings Account in 2019:

  • IU Health High Deductible Health Plan: IU’s contribution will be $1,600 for employee-only and $3,200 for all other coverage levels.
  • Anthem PPO High Deductible Health Plan: IU’s contribution will be $1,300 for employee-only and $2,600 for all other coverage levels.

Long Term Disability Insurance

Eligible employees have the special one-time opportunity to enroll in or increase their level of coverage in Long Term Disability Insurance without providing evidence of insurability. Outside of the open enrollment period, evidence of insurability will be required if employees wish to enroll.

Tax Saver Benefit Healthcare Reimbursement Account

The IRS maximum contribution limit will increase to $2,650.
