IU Athletics sets graduation success rate record for sixth year
An NCAA study released this month shows that IU students who participate in intercollegiate athletics continue to graduate at the highest rate ever.
The NCAA announced that IU scored a graduation success rate of 91 percent, the school’s best total since the report was first introduced 14 years ago. The data is based on a six-year time period from the student’s initial college enrollment.
This is IU’s best score since the NCAA began releasing it in 2005 and marks the sixth consecutive year that IU has established a new record with its score. It is also the seventh consecutive year that IU’s score has improved from the previous year.
WTIU documentary celebrates local history of Indiana’s Gennett Records
A new documentary from WTIU Public Television tells the story of Gennett Records, a small American record company and label based in Richmond, Indiana, that helped jazz giants like Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington and IU alumnus Hoagy Carmichael launch their careers.
“The Music Makers of Gennett Records” features interviews from several faculty members from the IU Jacobs School of Music and an original music score by Tyron Cooper, director of IU’s Archives of African American Music and Culture. The film’s producer, Todd Gould, said he relied heavily on IU’s Archives of Traditional Music for Hoagy Carmichael photographs, artifacts and recordings of early compositions from his time as a law student.
The documentary will air at 9:30 p.m. on Dec.1, 4 p.m. on Dec. 2 and 1 p.m. on Dec. 4. and is available to stream online. It will also be available for purchase on DVD and BluRay in April 2019 at shopwtiu.org.
