Beginning this summer, IUPUI will move to a tiered rate structure for parking permits based on employee salary levels.
Under the university’s current permit structure, rates are determined by what type of permit is purchased. The new structure will also use employee salary ranges to determine permit prices.
“This move to a tiered rate structure will allow us to mitigate future increases for our lower-paid employees while supporting the operational needs of Parking Services at IUPUI,” IUPUI Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration Camy Broeker said.
Salary tiers will be the same as those in use by Indiana University’s health care plans, aligning parking rates with the university’s health and dental care plan practices. The four tiers are:
$35,000 to $59,999
$60,000 to $99,999
$100,000 and above
Parking permit rates, as related to the tier rate structure for the 2019-20 academic year for the IUPUI campus, are expected to increase between zero and 2 percent. Specific pricing for all permit types will be announced in May.
The change affects EM, Evening, D and Garage permits, as well as what’s known as a “combo permit” that provides both EM and Garage access. It will not affect carpool and NC permits, and the price for those permits will not increase.
All IU campuses will use the same tiered salary structure to determine individual campus parking permit prices moving forward.
Employees should note that parking permit cost will be related to timing for permit renewal, due to the university’s fiscal year. For example, employees who renew in June 2019 will pay the rate based on their fiscal year 2019 salary, but employees who renew in July 2019 will pay the rate based on their fiscal year 2020 salary. Employees with a multiyear permit will pay the rate based on their fiscal year 2019 salary.
