Review of Building and Structure Names town hall: Feb. 11
An hourlong virtual town hall meeting for the IUPUI Committee on the Review of Building and Structure Names will take place at 3:45 p.m. Feb. 11.
In July 2020, Indiana University President Michael A. McRobbie began the process of a systematic review of all named buildings and structures on all IU campuses. The goal is to identify any buildings or structures named after a person found to have held views – in statements, writing or publicly – contrary to the fundamental values of the university and then consider whether to remove the present names.
At IUPUI, Chancellor Nasser H. Paydar appointed a campuswide committee, the IUPUI Committee on the Review of Building and Structure Names. Its purpose is to assist the IUPUI campus in researching and analyzing information about our named buildings and structures to ensure that the namesakes reflect the values held by the IUPUI campus community.
Registration for the Zoom meeting is required by 5 p.m. Feb. 9. If you need to register after that time, send your name and email address to Shirley Yorger at syorger@iupui.edu. Registered attendees will receive the webinar link Feb. 10.

Student commencement speaker applications now open
Staff and faculty are asked to encourage graduating seniors to apply to be the IUPUI student commencement speaker in May.
The undergraduate student speaker will have a successful academic record and a history of participation in campus and/or community activities. They will give a three-to-five-minute speech in front of graduating students, their guests and campus officials.
All application materials must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. March 7.
Have your COVID-19 questions answered in webinars
IU staff, faculty and students can have their COVID-19-related questions answered by Dr. Aaron Carroll, one of the leaders of IU’s COVID-19 Medical Response Team, in upcoming “Ask Aaron” webinars at noon Feb. 3, 10, 17 and 24.
The live Q&A sessions will include topics such as:
- Returning to campus and on-arrival testing.
- How and when vaccines are likely to be distributed.
- Connecting with others safely.

Virtual town hall being hosted by Indiana CTSI
Indiana CTSI is hosting a 90-minute virtual town hall at noon Jan. 29 called “Congregations as Healthy Connectors.”
The town hall will feature a discussion from 10 Indianapolis churches that have been gathering virtually. Their representatives will share their congregations’ stories and support for health and wellness and local knowledge of health assets, partnerships and priorities.
Clergy and health advocates will share lessons learned and next steps forward for this health connections collaboration.
