The online offerings will help IU reach more students who may already have work and family responsibilities that make IU’s face-to-face degree programs a challenge. The new degrees will also help meet Indiana’s workforce needs by preparing more students for jobs in in-demand industries.

The Bachelor of Science in accounting will be offered at IU East, IU Kokomo, IU Northwest, IU South Bend and IU Southeast. The collaborative program will be the only 100 percent online bachelor’s in accounting offered at IU. The degree meets requirements for students to sit for the Uniform Certified Public Accounting and Certified Management Accounting exams.

IU East, IUPUI, IU Northwest, IU South Bend and IU Southeast will offer a new Bachelor of Science in actuarial science, the first 100% online actuarial program in the five-state region of Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. The state projects more than 16% growth in the field of actuarial science through 2026. The new degree will prepare students for the first two professional exams in actuarial science and lay the foundation for the third exam.

Trustees also approved a new Master of Arts for teachers in German at IUPUI, IU South Bend and IU Southeast. The fully online program will prepare students to be dual-credit instructors at the high school and community college levels. The online program will offer more flexibility for students who are juggling teaching duties and family responsibilities.

IU Bloomington currently offers a face-to-face master’s for teachers in German; that program will be suspended once current students complete their degrees, and IU Bloomington will then start offering the program online.

A new online Master of Science in management offered by IU East, IU Kokomo, IU Northwest and IU Southeast will address the need for managers and leaders in every sector of the job market. The degree includes a human resources and general management track.

IU East, IU Kokomo, IU Northwest, IU Southeast and IU South Bend will offer an online Master of Science in strategic finance. The program includes an accounting or investments track, as well as courses in managerial finance. It will prepare students for career growth in their current positions or at a new organization.

A management consulting firm expects a more than 10% increase in national employment for statisticians over the next 10 years, which a collaborative online Bachelor of Science in applied statistics will help address. IU East, IU Northwest, IU South Bend and IU Southeast will offer the 120-credit-hour transfer-friendly bachelor’s degree. The program will prepare students for careers as statisticians, data scientists, business analysts, market research analysts and database administrators.

The degrees approved by trustees must receive final approval from the Indiana Commission for Higher Education.
