BLOOMINGTON, Ind.—The IU Office of the Vice President for Information Technology and CIO today announced that Jason Williams has been named chief information security officer (CISO) for Indiana University, effective March 7. Williams comes to IU from the role of CISO for the University of California Office of the President, and prior to that director of information security and compliance at the University of Notre Dame.
In his new role, Williams will lead the University Information Security Office (UISO) and report to Information Security Associate Vice President Von Welch. Information Security’s role is to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data and delivery systems across the university.
“The integrity of university data and systems is increasingly important as we as a university pursue student success, world-class research, and the grand challenges of making life better for all Hoosiers,” said Rob Lowden, IU’s vice president for information technology and CIO. “We welcome Jason as a highly skilled leader who is ready to lead a highly skilled team dedicated to protecting these pursuits.”
As cyber risk increases across the globe, universities require dedicated and talented individuals who can balance managing institutional risk while ensuring that IT can serve and support the mission of enabling world-class education and research institutions like IU.
