iGPS is an enhanced tool for academic planning that allows you to chart your path through college by working with Degree Maps that follow departmental pathways through a particular major. The maps are flexible, representing one way, but not the only way, to complete a degree.

The 9th annual Summit on Women and Tech will be held March 4-31.

The upcoming 9th Annual Summit on Women and Technology connects, empowers, and celebrates women in the technology field. The conference, held March 4-31, is free and open to all skill levels. In-person and virtual sessions featuring a variety of topics will be offered.

Nominate an Outstanding Student Leader or Outstanding Staff or Faculty Mentor by Feb. 17. The awardees will be announced at the summit.

Exhibit helps people understand data in a new way.

Data sculptures help people explore and comprehend data in a novel way. For example, a news story about real estate might use houses from a board game to make a 3D graph. Moving beyond pie charts and bar graphs, artists create physical representations of data imbedded in creative ways, as part of jewelry, textiles, and more.

Now through May in the Scholars’ Commons at Wells Library on the Bloomington campus, view an exhibition with data sculpture examples crafted during a Makerspace workshop, as well as posters and photos of inspiring data visualizations featured in museums and books.

Try creating a data sculpture for yourself, either at home or with a visit to the Wells Library Makerspace.

New Teaching for Student Success modules focus on diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice.  

Just launched: IU’s Teaching for Student Success is offering new modules focused on self-awareness and classroom solutions related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice (DEIJ). You can cite this professional development in your CV, annual report, and case for promotion and tenure.

All online modules are evidence-based and self-paced. Skim and download resources as you need them, or complete modules to earn a certificate. Though designed for instructors, staff can also learn from the modules to create more equitable environments at IU.

First enroll in the course, and then choose DEIJ Modules from the menu.

When you add interactive video to your Canvas courses, your students will go from passive watching to active learning. Even if you attended the recent PlayPosit webinar, you’ll want to sign up for this one! 

PlayPosit, now available to anyone at IU, can help you enhance any video from Kaltura, YouTube, Vimeo, and more. Some features you can try in PlayPosit include: 

• Adding a discussion so students can chat about the content
• Using questions and polls to gauge student engagement
• Allowing students to peer review video presentations 

The UTIS Learning Technologies webinar on PlayPosit will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 15, 12-1pm. You’ll learn about basic functions and how to integrate the tools into your courses, and you’ll leave with ideas for activities to enhance student engagement.
