UITS news for May 5, 2021
Congratulations, class of 2021!
What happens to your student accounts, data, and software once you graduate?
Congratulations to our graduates! You deserve extra praise for completing your degree during a pandemic. To our 2020 and 2021 grads, enjoy your in-person attendance at the May commencement ceremonies.
As you transition to post-grad life, here are some helpful hints about managing your student accounts.
- Your university accounts will remain active for now, but they will be disabled after two consecutive terms in which you are not enrolled.
- If IU-distributed software is already installed on your computer, you can keep it. Note: Once you are no longer enrolled, you will not be able to download university software. (Microsoft 365 will be disabled after two consecutive semesters of non-enrollment.)
- You will retain access to some services, such as bills, transcripts, and financial aid, but you will lose access to some IU resources, such as IU wireless, VPN, and STC computers.
Switch to eduroam before you leave campus
IU Secure Wi-Fi not available in residence halls as of May 26.
Don’t wait any longer—make the switch to eduroam, IU’s default wireless network, today. Our legacy Wi-Fi network, IU Secure, will no longer be available in residence halls as of May 26 and will fully retire on Dec. 22, 2021.
Need Wi-Fi while off campus? IU will continue to provide free, secure, high-speed wireless access for all Hoosiers in 24-hour “lot hot spots” around the state.
Kick off summer with an Adobe Creative Jam
Top prizes include gift cards up to $500.
Keep your creative skills fresh this summer and join in a beginner-friendly challenge using the power of Adobe Stock. Your commitment is small, just two 2-hour sessions, but the payoff is big—the top five prizes range from $100 to $500 gift cards!
In this Adobe Creative Jam, you’ll learn how to tell stories and polish your presentations using Adobe Stock. The event is only open to IU students, and you can compete solo or with a friend.
The live sessions are on June 16 and 30 at 2pm ET. Registration closes on June 15.
Worried about finding your way around campus in the fall?
Download the IU Mobile app from Apple or Google.
Because of the pandemic and online courses, some IU students have never been to an actual campus. If that’s you, and you’re feeling anxious about finding your way, we can help.
The free IU Mobile app has way-finding features, including campus maps, directions, and bus routes. Plus, it offers a bunch of other features to help you stay updated on COVID-19, check your CrimsonCard balance, or manage communications on or off campus. Enjoy your summer. See you in the fall!
Last chance to move Box files
IU’s cloud storage service, Box, will be retired on May 10.
IU Box will be disabled for all users as of May 10. Get everything you need out of Box before that date. If you want to retain your Box files, choose an individual or institutional storage location before you move your files.
If you don’t want your files, you don’t have to do anything. The data will be deleted.
The IU Box retirement FAQ has more information. Need help? Contact your campus IT Support Center.
Thank you for your flexibility and patience during the retirement of the Box cloud storage service and the transition to the Microsoft and Google storage platforms.
